The Indian Air Force confirmed human error as the cause of the helicopter crash that killed Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat, his wife, and 11 others. Bipin Rawat was a four-star General of the Indian Army who became the first Chief of Defence Staff of India on 31 December 2019. He died in a chopper crash on 8 December 2021. He was born into a Rajput Family of Uttarakhand that has been serving in the Indian Army for generations. He served as the first Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) of the Indian Armed Forces from January 2020 until his death in a helicopter crash in December 2021. Three years after the tragic Mi-17 V5 helicopter crash that claimed the life of India’s first Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat, his wife Madhulika Rawat, and 11 others, the Standing Committee on Defence has officially attributed the incident to ‘Human error (Aircrew)’.
