The Turkish Lira (TRY) is the official currency of Turkey. It’s been the country’s currency since 1922, evolving through various designs and denominations over the decades. The symbol for the Turkish Lira is ₺, a stylized representation of the Lira’s initial “L” incorporating a vertical stroke. The official currency as well as the unit of Turkish money is the Turkish Lira (Türk Lirası, TL or TRY). A unique symbol (₺) was introduced by the Turkish Central Bank to denote the Turkish Lira. It is also legal tender in the de facto state of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. The official currency in Turkey is the Turkish lira , usually abbreviated as TRY or just TL and is generally the best currency to use, however other currencies may accepted in certain larger resorts and cities.
