Transport of food in plants : The transport of soluble products of photosynthesis is called translocation and it occurs in the part of the vascular tissue known as phloem. It takes place in the sieve tubes with the help of adjacent companion cells both in upward and downward directions. Transportation in plants refers to the movement of water, minerals, and food throughout a plant's body. Unlike animals, plants do not have a heart or blood. Instead, special tissues and passive physical processes move essential substances from roots to leaves and back. Xylem: Plants require water for making food by the process of photosynthesis. They also require mineral salts to be absorbed from the soil by the roots of the plant and transported to various parts like stem leaves and flowers. Conducting tissue : Xylem - Water and minerals transport Phloem transports food meterials from the leaves to different parts of the plant. The transportation of food in phloem is achieved by utilizing energy from ATP which helps in creating osmotic pressure that transport food from the area of high concentration to low concentration.
