Jhumri telaiya: Is a town in Jharkhand’s Koderma

Jhumri Telaiya is a town in Jharkhand’s Koderma district. The town was once famous for the number of song requests it sent to Radio Ceylon and Vividh Bharati radio stations every month. Its real fame was, however, due to mica, the shimmery, translucent mineral that drove the economy of the sleepy town and made many of its people millionaires. Jhumritelaiya is situated in the Koderma block of the Koderma district. Jhumritelaiya was given the status of Nagar parishad in the year 2010. The population of Jhumritelaiya is 87867 as per the census of 2011. The administrative area of Jhumritelaiya town is divided into 28 wards. An enlightened person, Late Jagannath Jain of Jhumri Telaiya was the biggest contributor in the establishment of the college. Hence, the college was named after him. JhumriTelaiya is a small town in Koderma subdivision. Jhumri is the name of the original village in the area, which is now in the town. The word “Telaiya” is the Hindi word for a small lake. It was once an important centre for mica mining.
