J - K latches refer to level-triggered J - K flip - flops , distinguishing them from edge-triggered J - K flip - flops . Level-triggered devices are termed latches, while their edge-triggered counterparts are called flip - flops . From the Flipflop family, Jack Kilby flip - flop ( JK Flipflop ) is versatile and can be used as a basic memory element. It can also store toggle functionality with a diversity of making applications with it. Master Slave JK Flip Flop is a combination of two JK flip flops which are connected in the cascaded manner as shown in Figure-1. In this combination of two JK flip flop , one acts as a master flip flop and the other acts as a slave flip flop .
