Rani Kamlapati , after whom Habibganj station near Bhopal has been renamed, was Gond queen. Kamlapati was daughter of Raja Kirpal Singh Sarautia of the princely state of Salkanpur, Sehore. Who was Rani Kamlapati ? Rani Kamlapati was the widow of Nizam Shah, whose Gond dynasty ruled the then Ginnorgarh, 55 km from Bhopal, in the 18th century. Kampalati is known to have shown great bravery in facing aggressors during her reign after her husband was killed. Rani kamlapati tied the rakhi to warlord Dost Muhammad khan who protected her and her son from her enemies after her husband's death. She gifted Bhopal as a reward to Dost Muhammad khan who developed it as his capital. Their story shows the hindu muslim u ity of bhopal which continues to the present day. Rani Kamlapati Palace is a secular architecture of the 18th century built of Lakhauri bricks, cusped arches over crumpled pillars. The merlons are shaped as water lotuses honouring the name of the Queen.
