The Uphaar Cinema fire was one of the worst fire tragedies in the country. A total of 59 people lost their lives in the fire that broke out during the screening of Hindu film Border on June 13, 1997. On June 13, 1997, a fire started in Uphaar Cinema theatre, reportedly due to improper maintenance of the electric transformer at the establishment, eventually causing a stampede and killing fifty-nine individuals, including Neelam and Shekhar’s two children.
